There is a lot of talk about the Full Moon – such as it being a time when activity is high, the behavior of people or animals seem out of character and strange things, in general are known to happen. Additionally, many people are unable to get a good night’s sleep when there is a Full Moon. What is it about the Full Moon that causes so much disarray and high energy? Aside from the Full Moon alone, what is so important about the phases of the Moon all together?
Believe it or not, the phases of the Moon have an energetic influence on our lives cycle after cycle. The best way to compare the phases of the Moon is to the cycle of life. Each phase represents a phase in your life. Let’s start off by talking about the importance of the New Moon…
The New Moon
Just like it sounds, the “New Moon” phase is when there is a brand new moon. The Sun is not illuminating it at this point, it is new and only darkness surrounds it. To understand this better, you can compare the New Moon to the birth of a baby – A newborn has a clean slate and a fresh start. During the New Moon of any month is a good time to set new intentions, you will have a clean slate as well. This is also a great time to set the best intentions and you can start by setting some small or big goals.
The Waxing Crescent
The next phase of the Moon is “waxing crescent”. This is when a small sliver of the right side of the Moon is illuminated. You can compare this phase to that of an infant becoming a young child. The next phase however, represents something more significant in your life, so keep reading…
The First Quarter
This phase of the Moon is when 50 percent of the right side of the Moon is illuminated. You can compare this phase to a teenager beginning to get a taste of adulthood – which means they are in a stressful or confusing time of their lives. They are dealing with raging hormones, dating, school work and are feeling pressured to make a decision on what to do with their future selves.
During this phase you are feeling the tension as you are focusing on your goal. You may be facing challenges and obstacles, but don’t give up. Keep going and if that doesn’t work then you may have to make some changes on how to attain your goal.
As the next phase is the waxing gibbous which means about 75 percent of the right side of the moon is illuminated. Compare it to the life of a young adult. Some of the Full Moon energies are felt during this time.
The Full Moon
This is the part that you have been waiting for… when the entire Moon is illuminated. During the Full Moon is when energies are very high. You will be seeing the results of the work you have done and you will also be seeing the areas that need improvement because it will come to the surface for you to see. For instance, if you have been not focusing on your eating habits, during the Full Moon is when you will find out that those pants you have been wanting to wear are very snug on you. Or if you have been watching your eating habits well, you will reap the rewards by seeing that your clothing is loose or you will notice how generally good you feel!
You can compare this time to the mid-life awareness. During mid-life, you are at a place when you are evaluating how your life has turned out. You also are at a place to determine what areas of your life need improvement so you can make the necessary changes later on.
After this phase is the Waning Gibbous Moon which is the same as getting closer to retirement age and the Moon is 75 percent lit on the left side which is heading towards the Last Quarter Moon.
The Last Quarter Moon
The Last Quarter Moon is 50 percent lit up on the left side. This is a tie to let go, forgive, and declutter. You can compare it to becoming a senior citizen that is retiring and even downsizing their home. They are finished with their career, children have left or are planning on leaving the nest, they may even move to a retirement home which requires decluttering.
The waning crescent moon follows this phase which is shown by a sliver of the left side of the moon that is lit up. This phase is compared to aging further and getting ready to go back home which is the spirit world. And that cycle comes to an end until the New Moon of the new lunar cycle emerges – which can be compared to rebirth in the spirit world or as “reincarnation.”
The moon has a significant influence on how we live our lives, and the cycle represents life as it is. Now that you have this knowledge, whenever there is a New Moon, set your intentions for that cycle, work on it, and reap the rewards. Don’t forget to comment and share your thoughts!
