Starting an Etsy business can be a fun and rewarding venture. In the last few years, I’ve managed to make over 16,000 orders on the e-commerce platform alone. If you’re looking for a side hustle or you’re ready to take the plunge and leave your job for your passion… below are some steps to help you get started.
1. Research and choose a niche:
Before you start your Etsy business, it’s important to research different niches and products that are popular on the platform. Consider your interests, skills, and what makes you happy. Usually, if those products make YOU happy, they will make someone else very happy too.
2. Create a business plan:
Outline your goals, target market, marketing strategies, and financial projections in a business plan but DO NOT OVERTHINK IT. This step can help you stay organized and focused as you start your Etsy business, but it’s not always a requirement. Don’t get stuck on this part or let it hold you back from going for it!
3. Set up your Etsy shop:
Create an Etsy account and set up your shop. If you know how to use social media and set up accounts on Facebook or Instagram, this part will be a breeze for you. Choose a shop name that reflects your brand and upload high-quality photos of your products, but again DO NOT OVERTHINK this part because you can always change your name later. Make sure to write clear and detailed product descriptions to attract potential customers.
4. List your products:
Start adding your products to your Etsy shop. Be sure to include accurate pricing, shipping information, and any customization options available. Use relevant tags and keywords to help your products show up in search results. For more on tags, keywords and how to come up at the top of Etsy’s search page, click here.
5. Market your Etsy shop:
Promote your Etsy shop through social media, email marketing, and collaborations with other Etsy sellers. Consider running promotions or sales to attract new customers. Engage with your audience and respond to customer inquiries promptly.
6. Fulfill orders and provide excellent customer service:
Once you start receiving orders, make sure to fulfill them in a timely manner. Package your products carefully and provide excellent customer service to ensure a positive shopping experience for your customers.
7. Monitor and adjust:
Keep track of your sales, customer feedback, and marketing efforts. Use this data to make informed decisions and adjust your strategies as needed to grow your Etsy business.
Starting an Etsy business takes time and effort, but with dedication and hard work, you can build a successful online shop and connect with customers around the world.
